On June 20 of this year 2016, from the General Secretariat of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference, it is reported that the Holy Father Francisco has appointed Archbishop of Cuenca, to the Hon. Mons. Marcos Aurelio Pérez Caicedo, current Bishop of Babahoyo. Mons. Marcos Pérez Caicedo was born in Daule, province of Guayas, on July 14, 1967. He obtained a bachelor’s degree at the National School “Juan Bautista Aguirre” in Daule. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Guayaquil. He obtained a degree in Spiritual Theology at the University of the Holy Cross in Rome. He was ordained a priest on March 19, 1992, for the Archdiocese of Guayaquil. On June 10, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil. Throughout his priestly and episcopal ministry, Bishop Marcos Pérez Caicedo has held the following pastoral offices

  •  Vice-Parish Priest of the Parish “El Sagrario” (1992-1998);
  •  Vice-Rector of the Major Seminary of Guayaquil (1998-1999); • Rector of the Seminary of Guayaquil (1999-2002);
  •  President of the Organization of Ecuadorian Seminars (OSEC) (2002);
  •  Professor at the Major Seminary of Guayaquil and the School of Theology for Laity, Guayaquil;
  •  Chaplain of the Archdiocesan College “Cardenal Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz”;
  •  Rector of the Seminary of Guayaquil (2004-2006); • Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil (2006-2012);
  •  Responsible for the Episcopal Vicars of Guayaquil-Sur and “Santa Elena” (2006-2008);
  •  Responsible for the Episcopal Vicars of Guayaquil-Center-North, Episcopal Vicar for Catechesis, Youth Ministry, Lay People and Family (2008-2012);
  •  Member of the Episcopal Commission for the Laity (2008-2011);
  •  Member of the Governing Council of the Goods and of the Commission for the Laity of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference (2011-2014);
  •  Vice President of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference (since 2014).
